“And that’s why I feel like this hearing was a perfect metaphor for the worst of the education system in America,” Noah said. “Here’s a student who’s clearly not proficient in the required subject matter, but because of the system, we know they’re still going to get pushed through.”
I do not personally know ANYONE, Republican or Democrat, teacher or otherwise, that thinks this lady is a good idea. So what the hell?!
The above quote is from an article from Huffington Post, Trevor Noah Eviscerates Betsy DeVos Over Her Confirmation Hearing.
How has it come to this, and WHAT are we going to do? This dumbass thinks teachers are overpaid, and that we no longer need to adhere to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Um, wait what?
Well, at least we will be able to defend ourselves from grizzly bears while teaching fractions.
It’s hard being an elementary school teacher and having an elementary age child. Especially a very talkative child. Her academics are through the roof! But apparently her mouth never stops.
I know these students. I have these students. I say to my daughter, “Don’t be that kid!”
Sometimes I wish I didn’t understand about classrooms and test scores. I wish I was one of the many confused or uninformed parents.
Alas. I know all too well. Behavior chart starts next Monday. #thatkid
Man she’s awesome though! ❤
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2017.
For many years I taught 5th grade social studies, which included a unit on Civil Rights. It was my favorite unit to teach, mainly because of MLK. His insight and intelligence, his patience and nonviolent actions during such a tumultuous time was incredible. And educating children about him was an honor. To this day I keep several of his quotes in my classroom.
This one seems especially appropriate (& terrifying) given some upcoming events…. and the next 4 years.
And of course I would show my students the I Have a Dream speech… but my favorite is King’s last speech– the mountaintop.
Well, I don’t know what will happen now. We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn’t matter with me now, because I’ve been to the mountaintop.
Difficult days ahead. Yeah, I think we can all relate to that.
And I don’t mind.
Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over. And I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land!
And so I’m happy, tonight.
I’m not worried about anything.
I’m not fearing any man!
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord!!
Perhaps reviewing MLK’s words will help us all remember that during the darkest days, stars shine brighter.
Today I hosted a LulaRoe pop up sale in my home. If you do not know LulaRoe, but you love leggings- STOP right now, look them up, find a person that sells them and buy some immediately!! They are the softest, most comfortable leggings on the planet! They do not roll down at the waist like a lot do. Plus they have super fun prints.
Yes! Those last ones DO have doughnuts and other pastries on them!!
I earned all of these free, plus 2 tops and a dress. I even got Miss Priss a pair of the kids leggings- she says, “I love my airplane leggings!”
I am a huge Harry Potter nerd. I proudly admit it.
Today I was reminded it has been 1 year since the passing of Alan Rickman. What an amazing actor. He could play the bad guy like no other, but by all accounts was nothing but a good guy in real life.
Severus Snape will forever be his legacy. I remember when I first heard he was cast for the role I thought, “Oh my God YES! PERFECT!” It was like the role had been written for him. And that was WAY before we knew the complexity of the Severus Snape character.
I came across this link today from The Huffington Post UK. If you are a Harry Potter/ Severus Snape fan, or an Alan Rickman fan, watch it.
Oh autocorrect… that’s even less correct!
Though to be fair, I think I like it better too.
